Skills Development Isiseko
An entry-level skills development programme for children aged 7–10 from all backgrounds.
Participants develop circus, creative, and teamwork skills while working towards a shared goal, the Annual Showcase, with the opportunity to be identified and selected for progression into the ZAPPERS talent development programme.
Social Challenge
A lack of recreational facilities results in young people getting involved in anti-social behaviour. Children still experience racism and other forms of discrimination, such as sexism. Many children have low self-esteem and may find it hard to cope with daily challenges.
Programme Goal
For children and youth to develop a basic level of circus skills and enable them to experience the value of diversity and teamwork.
They also work towards both a mid-year and an end-of-year showcase.
2025 Programme Impact
The Isiseko programme introduces children to the foundations of circus arts through a fun, safe and inclusive learning environment. Weekly training develops fundamental circus skills, physical literacy, creativity, confidence and teamwork, while encouraging discipline, creativity and a love for movement. Participation in the annual showcase provides young performers with their first stage experience and builds confidence in front of an audience.
Participants demonstrated growth in coordination, confidence, social skills and resilience, while developing positive training habits and a sense of belonging within the programme. Highlights included the Annual Showcase and Family Day, which celebrated participants’ achievements and strengthened family engagement and support.
