Types of Bequests
  • Residuary Bequest – Leaving a percentage of the remaining estate after other distributions.
  • Pecuniary Bequest – A fixed amount of money.
  • Specific Bequest – Donating an asset (e.g., property, shares, artwork).
  • Conditional Bequest – A gift that only takes effect if certain conditions are met.
Benefits of Leaving a Bequest

  • Tax benefits: Bequests to a registered PBO are exempt from Estate Duty (currently 20% on estates above R3.5 million).
  • Provides long-term financial stability for the NGO.
