Social Challenge

Children with chronic illness and intellectual impairments, are found to be at greater risk for mental disorders, including depression, anxiety, and feeling of isolation. In addition to the physical effects of their illnesses or injuries, children may encounter numerous social problems such as stigmatisation, discrimination, and changes in the patterns of relationships.

Programme Goal

To use circus arts to give participants the opportunity to experience recreation and social interaction outside of their normal environments.

2025 Programme Impact

The VUKA programme provides children with diverse disabilities a safe, inclusive space to explore circus arts through structured and supportive sessions. Activities include movement, juggling, partner acrobatics and creative expression, tailored to individual needs.

Participants showed meaningful growth in confidence, coordination, concentration and social interaction, becoming more engaged and proud of their achievements. Highlights included learning new skills such as scarf juggling and performing in mid-year and year-end showcases, demonstrating courage and creativity to a wide audience.
